A SERIES of illustrations depicting rural post offices across South Lakeland looks set to provide a visual boost to the campaign to save them from closure.

As part of her final year degree show, Sophie Martin, 22, who is studying Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art, decided to focus upon the rural post offices in and around her home town of Kendal.

Knowing that many of the post offices are under threat of closure added an extra dimension to her project and she now hopes that her drawings may be used to raise awareness of the vital role played by village post offices.

Miss Martin hopes to produce a book that combines the illustrations with comments from sub-postmasters and postmistresses, as well as other members of the local community, about the role the post office plays within village life.

Miss Martin would be delighted to hear from any local residents who would like to include a comment about their post offices in the book.
