Residents of Kendal react to the news of the police finishing its investigation into Partygate, with 126 fines issued.

Today the Metropolitan Police stated that some people received more than one fine for breaking lockdown rules.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, his wife Carrie, and Chancellor Rishi Sunak have all previously admitted to receiving fines.

The most controversial incidents were a surprise birthday celebration for Mr. Johnson in the Cabinet Room on 19th June 2020, and a garden drinks party on 20th May 2020.

However people in Kendal were largely unphased by the incidents, and wanted the government to continue doing their job. They also said that the investigation over Kier Starmer's meeting meant that the opposition could no longer raise the issue:

"He (Kier Starmer) was doing the same thing so it's not even worth discussing I don't think" said a man enjoying the sun.

A woman walking to the shops said: "Let politicians do what politicians do and get on with their job, and tell Kier Starmer to make a real policy."

Another woman on her phone waiting for a friend said: "They all annoy me but for different reasons. Partygate is at the bottom of the list of things I care about."

One man drinking a cappuccino on a bench seemed resigned about the scandal: "They're all corrupt aren't they? They do what they want. It doesn't shock me at all they're all the same."

Yet one woman, having a cigarette break said:

"I think the police should publish the names, the Tories are complete hypocrites."

She admitted that she did not like Starmer, but wanted to wait until the police report came out over his Durham campaign meal in April 30th 2021 before drawing an equivalence.

Mr. Starmer said multiple times that Boris Johnson should resign over his fines. He argues that his campaign meal is not the same as Partygate because it was not a pre organised event and there was no other alternative for his staff.

Mr Starmer said that he would resign if the police  found that he broke the rules.
