CARNFORTH’S Community Pool received a visit from MP David Morris on May 20 during a special visit with members of staff and local councillor Jim Grisenthwaite.

The Community Pool, located on Kellet Road, beside Carnforth High School, is seeking funding for a new extension project for the premises and has recently worked with Carnforth’s ICC to put on special swimming lessons for people who had suffered a detrimental impact during the pandemic.

David Morris engaged in a fruitful discussion with members of staff and Cllr Grisenthwaite who also attended.

The pool hopes an extension to its premises will offer their staff new opportunities for work and organisation.

Manager Gillian Mason, who has worked at the pool for 30 years, said: “Meeting David was great and we hope something really positive can come from this.

“An extension is very much needed. We’re using up all our space so an extension would give us so much more space for storage and would give the staff a room of their own.

“We have schools come through every day so there is no space for work. I often take work home with me.

“We hope David’s visit can help us open some more funding avenues.

“Our gas bill has doubled and that’s not sustainable.”

MP David Morris said: “It’s always a pleasure to come along and see what’s going on in the community.

“It’s great to come to Carnforth, and to the school and the pool.

“Things have really moved forward in recent years and it’s all done to the volunteers who make it all happen.

“They have great plans for the future. I’ll be putting in for a debate in parliament to help them on community pools. Hopefully we’ll be pulled for that debate.”
