A restaurant will be marking its first anniversary in style with a right 'Royle' celebration.

The Lake View in Bowness celebrated its first year since opening last week and will be kicking off celebrations with a special guest to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee next weekend.

Tom Nash took over the building in 2020 after it was left vacant for years. Tom, who owns a number of bars and pubs in Liverpool, decided to refurbish the building and turn it into the popular bar and grill that it is today which includes a 180 seat bar and restaurant on the first floor and a 120 seat function room and bar on the second floor.

Tom said: "Over the past 12 months we have had some key figures coming to Bowness and entertaining us, which has never happened before. We have had Stan Boardman, Mick Miller, Alan Henry, Roy Walker, Chrissy Rock and all those types of names.

The Westmorland Gazette:

"Now we have Ricky Tomlinson coming in character as Jim Royle to introduce our royal variety weekend."

Tom prides himself on creating 'a fun and family destination' in the heart of the Lake District.

He said: "I noticed there wasn't much for kids to do after sightseeing and the boat trips so we wanted to make sure that we had family menus, children entertainers on the weekend and make it a visitors and family attraction."

Kicking off the 'Royle Variety Weekend' will be Jim Royle played by Ricky Tomlinson. On how this came about, Tom said: "Ricky and myself were part of the good turns society which was organised by Ken Dodd many years ago where we carry out charity events.

"Ricky has been a friend and supporter of ours for many years so when we ask Ricky to do something he does step up to the mark for us."

The Westmorland Gazette:

The Bank Holiday weekend will kick off on Thursday, June 2 with Jim Royle from 3pm until late with performer Lisa Thomlinson from 4pm and top vocalist James Ben carrying on the party from 8pm.
