A POPULAR bed and breakfast nestled in the Yorkshire has received a prestigious award.

The Old Craft Barn on the outskirts of Dent, which is run by husband and wife duo Carrol and Joe Stephenson, has achieved an outstanding award by Visit England.

They are just one of a hundred recipients in the country to receive the Rose Award.

Carrol said she was 'proud' to have received the award.

"We have been doing this for 12 years so it is really special to have it recognised. We do try and do our best for everybody," she said.

The awards showcase England's variety of high-quality accommodation where owners go the extra mile to provide outstanding service for their customers.

It covers all types of accommodation from hostels to hotels, self-catering to campsites and from glamping to guest houses.

Carrol said the award was a 'real recognition' of the work she and her husband do.

Carrol and Joe bought the Craft Centre in March 1999 before extending it in 2006.

Despite thoroughly enjoying their eleven years operating the tearoom and craft centre, they were ready for change and began planning the B&B.

This new initiative fit the bill perfectly and with lots of remodelling yet still retaining some of the original features, they have managed to recapture the nostalgia and atmosphere of this traditional Dales barn.

Carrol said: "Work began early in 2010 and for six months we seemed to be living on a building site as new soundproof, fireproof and insulated rooms were constructed within the original thick stone walls.

"Eventually, the work came to an end and the excitement of furnishing began. We believe that The Old Craft Barn now lends itself admirably to the welcoming venue it is today."

On what they both love about working in the hospitality sector Carrol said: "We have always worked in the people industry and we just enjoy meeting people, making them comfortable, listening to them and helping them enjoy their stay."
