IF YOU are looking for some plans to keep entertained over the next week, look no further as we have rounded up the events taking place across South Lakeland.

1. The Platinum Jubilee Hallgarth Street Party

Head down to the Hallgarth Community Centre for a royal celebration. The event is free and everyone is welcome. There'll be food, live music, 5-a-side football tournament, childrens' competitions and games, and a Jacob's Join homemade cakes stand.

The celebration begins at 11am on Sunday, June 5 and people can take their own picnic and chairs.

2. Ulverston International Music Festival

The 2022 Ulverston International Music Festival, returns from 1 – 8 June with a packed programme to delight music lovers and celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

The Festival’s artistic director Anthony Hewitt explains said: “It’s exciting to be back with a programme of musical contrasts.

"From the reflective to the celebratory. The British theme is of course inspired by the Platinum Jubilee, but also the 150th anniversary of one of our greatest composers, Ralph Vaughan Williams."

3. Kris Drever and Rachel Baiman

On Saturday, June 4 head down to the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal for Kris Drever and Rachel Baiman fresh on the heels of their respective new solo albums.

Scottish folk star Kris Drever (LAU), and Nashville-based Americana artist Rachel Baiman present a joint tour of the UK and Scotland in the Spring of 2022, featuring solo sets from each as well as unique collaborations drawing on their respective original material.

The event starts at 8pm and the tickets are £18.

4. Top Brass: Brighouse & Rastrick

Brighouse and Rastrick perform some timeless British brass greats and royal-themed works to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

The event is on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30pm at The Coro, Ulverston and tickets can be purchased on the website.

5. South Lakeland Zoo entry

Over the weekend head down to South Lakeland Zoo. The Zoo is home to over 1,000 of the rarest and most endangered animals in unique natural environments which enable you to learn about the animals on show.

Tickets for adults are £19.99, children go for £15.99 and under-fives go free.

6. Dovetailing

An immersive installation composed of suspended sculptural works, alongside film and sound, to create a multi-sensory experience.

Dovetailing is an immersive installation inspired by luthiery (the making of stringed musical instruments).

Sculptor Juliet Gutch has responded to the shapes and forms of stringed instruments with a series of suspended wooden mobiles.

The installation will be on show at the Windermere Jetty Museum until Sunday, July 17 and entry is free.

7. Street Market

This weekend, you can head down to the Ulverston street market and grab yourself some bargains and support independent local businesses. The market takes place every Thursday and Saturday.

8. A Party To Murder

The latest production from Burneside Amateur Theatrical Society is almost here.

Starting Wednesday, June 8 for 4 nights at the Bryce in Burneside. This promises to be a real whodunnit for audiences to get pulled into and see if they can work out the twists and turns of this murder mystery. 

Surprises abound in this hair-raising thriller, culminating in an unexpected twist that even the great Agatha Christie herself could not foresee.

9. Ian Bailey

Tickets are now available for Ian Bailey at Arnside Sailing Club - The Old Customs House, Carnforth on Sun 5 Jun 2022 at 8:00pm.

Expect an evening of fabulous songcraft and outstanding musicianship. Ian has produced 6 solo albums.

Members can go for free and none members the event is £7.50 and doors open at £7:30pm.

10. Jubilee Afternoon Tea 

Celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in style at The Belsfield Hotel with our Themed Afternoon Tea.

In addition to the traditional afternoon tea, they can offer Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free options; accompanied by choice of loose leaf teas or, for the ultimate luxury experience, a glass of champagne.

The special Jubilee afternoon teas can be booked until Sunday, June 5.
