The Government review into returning to imperial measurements drew a mixed reaction from Kendal residents today.
Another Weigh is a zero-waste shop in Wainwright's Yard where the customers bring their own containers and fill it with nuts, cereal, pasta and spices. Their dispensaries measure in grams:
"We've never had a problem with people not knowing how much a gram is" one of the staff said.
"I don't really weigh food in imperial, I only do that when I'm weighing myself on the scale!" another said.
A man sat on a bench outside Greggs said: "It's ridiculous! It's about covering up partygate."
However not everyone was negative about the return to pounds and ounces.
"What do they mean returning? If I tell the butcher I want half a pound of meat they'll know what that is in grams. But I think it's a good idea, it's traditional."
One of a group of women said: "I prefer pounds and ounces. It's what I grew up with."
Her friend agreed: "I work in a kitchen and it's still what I measure out in. I'm old school."
It is expected that Boris Johnson will make a statement about imperial measurements at the end of this week.
