BRAVE souls are set to strip down to their birthday suits as part of a series of naturist events taking place this summer.

Naturists are due to bare across South Cumbria all this August as part of a series of skinny dips hosted by British Naturism.

Event-goers will strip off their shorts, t-shirts and dresses for the naked walk taking place at Beacon Tarn near Coniston on August 9.

The event will also include a skinny dip for naturists to cool down after taking on the South Lakes trek.

Following this, naturists are invited to attend a Shap Lido evening hosted by the Great British Skinny Dip.

The next event held in South Cumbria will be the woodland weekend in Fell Foot.

Attendees can explore the shores of Windermere whilst enjoying live music, fell walks, a skinny dip, meditation, ceremonies as well as an optional massage.

Pricing for the woodland weekend – which will take place from Friday August 12 until Sunday August 14 - is £80 per person and includes a tent or camper van pitch.

Ron O’Hare leads naturist events in the county and has been practising the controversial lifestyle choice for more than 20 years.

Mr O’Hare, who is a member of British Naturism, is looking forward to the events, which he hopes will attract new faces to bare their birthday suit.

“Getting naked really helps with your mental health and body confidence,” he said.

“It’s surprising how many people come to these events and within minutes get completely naked – it’s so natural.

“It’s quite a liberating feeling.

“We always like to see new faces at the events. We want to bring people in to experience naturism for the first time.”

It's not an offence to be naked in public in England and Wales but it does become an offence if it can be proved the person stripped off with the intention to upset and shock. The complainant has to prove this.

Any profits made from the walks will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
