KENDAL'S Inner Wheel welcomed a special guest speaker from St John's Hospice to discuss care and advice on health.

Stuart Nelson, Relationship Manager at St John’s Hospice, paid a visit to the group to deliver a talk on individual care and to provide some simple but effective advice on health.

He was also kind enough to answer some of the individual requests made by members of the group.

Club Correspondent Suzanne Flynn said: "At this month’s meeting of the Inner Wheel of Kendal, we were pleased to hear a talk from Stuart Nelson, Relationship Manager at St John’s Hospice, St John's Hospice - Hospice care in North Lancashire & South Lakes (sjhospice.org.uk).

"They provide in patient palliative care and care in people’s homes for the patient and their family.

"They are very focused on the individual care they provide and we heard of two unusual requests: one to be out in the rain and another to use G&T for bathing her dry mouth.

They also have a Forget me not centre to support children who have been bereaved.

"They get 1/3 of their funding from the NHS but need to raise the rest: £3.4M a year. One of the ways they raise money is by sponsored tandem skydiving and 2 of our members volunteered. No age limit.

"We were also pleased at this month's meeting to thank our outgoing president Hilary Fleming and greet our new one, Sandy Dickinson."
