THE ‘sad’ death of a 34-year-old man who had moved from Poland to Kendal was alcohol and drug-related, a coroner ruled.

Kamil Krzeszowski died at his home in Wildman Street on January 21, an inquest held at Cockermouth Coroner’s Court on Tuesday was told.

Born in Poland in 1987, Mr Krzeszowski ‘felt settled’ in England after moving away, the court heard.

In a statement read out to court Police Sergeant Ross Wood said he was asked to attend a property in Kendal in relation to the sudden death of a man

He entered the address and passed through a kitchen and living area where he found Mr Krzeszowski lying on the bed. There was a small amount of cannabis in the room, he told the court.

There was nothing in the room which indicated what had caused his death, Sgt Wood said, and a CSI team was requested to the address who found no marks or injuries on Mr Krzeszowski.

Mr Krzeszowski had been registered with the James Cochrane Practice in Kendal since January 2019.

In a statement read out to the court, Dr Paul Atkinson said Mr Krzeszowski told him he had been experiencing depressed mood but did not want to die.

He told Dr Atkinson that he was drinking up to five litres of cider every day and said he was going to engage with Unity services.

He told the GP he was happily settled in England and there was no suggestion of drug issues in his medical record.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Krzeszowski had 310 milligrams per decilitre of alcohol in his system as well as a small amount of cocaine and cannabis.

There was also evidence of cannabis having been taken in the days leading up to his death, the court was told.

The post-mortem examination said the believed cause of death is a combination of alcohol and cocaine which caused cardio toxicity.

Dr Nicholas Shaw ruled a verdict of a drug and alcohol related death.

He said: “An investigation failed to provide any background for Kamil. He seems to be leading a rather sad and lonely life and experienced a sad and lonely death which is very sad.

“He came to this country and it seems that the move had been better for him.”
