A SOUTH Lakeland cafe celebrated its 25th year of business this month.

Wilf's Cafe, located on Staveley Mill Yard, marked a quarter of a century of trading on July 12, 2022.

Owned and operated by business directors Charlotte Webb and Iain Williamson; also known as Wilf, who have worked together since 1992, the cafe has built a strong reputation among local residents for their friendly atmosphere and high-quality service.

Charlotte said: "We were working in an event catering business before we started the cafe, and then we opened here.

"We also had a cafe in Ambleside before this, and that was called Wilf's as well.

"When in Ambleside, Wilf was offered a job as manager of a restaurant and later he moved to White Mountain in Ambleside.

"By that time the event catering business was on the go, and that was run for about 18 years.

"It began in 1992 and it was sold in 2009.

"We opened the cafe in Kendal in July 1997.

"It's been a great time here. Probably the last two years were the worse but we've come through that and bounced back as best we can.

"Like everyone in hospitality, we had staffing issues. We were ok for front of house and we're currently looking for a chef.

"Currently we are also looking to sell the business, and we began advertising for it six weeks ago.

"We have sixteen people in the business, plus us directors which is me and Ian.

"We didn't manage to do much on the actual day. Wilf was away with his family for his daughter's end of university celebration.

"We like being open seven days a week and we look forward to the future."
