KENDAL Museum is re-opening its art gallery on the lower floor of the Museum building on Station Road.

The room was used for exhibitions previously by local art groups and artists but was taken over by Kendal College. Now that the College is opening its new learning spaces in the Westmorland Shopping Centre, the room can return to its previous use.

The opening exhibition was in June with Jess Levine, a local printmaker. This month has an exhibition by Colin Reynolds, a Kendal-based photographer who depicts unusual landscapes and seascapes.

In August, printmaker James Barnes will have an exhibition, and in September it will be Mike Healey, a painter and mixed media artist. Helen Steer is a landscape painter based in Penrith who will be exhibiting in November.

Michael Bult, the museum's business and development manager said: "This is an exciting space for us to promote and use – a new year-round venture for the Museum. We are always looking to welcome local artists and community groups to make use of the space.”

The gallery will provide space for artists to display medium to large works of art.

Entry to the gallery only is free or can be combined with a ticket to the museum.
