The Lake District’s credentials as a top destination for classic car lovers are to be highlighted on a popular YouTube Channel.

The team from the channel idriveaclassic, which has around 35,000 followers across the UK, has visited Lakeland Motor Museum and driven one of its classic vehicles around the area’s scenic roads.

Presenter Steph Holloway said: “I’m honestly in love with the Lake District and can’t wait to share our films with viewers. It’s the perfect place for a classic car road trip!”

Steph’s classic car staycation began at the Lakeland Motor Museum in Backbarrow where she filmed a review of the award-winning attraction and hit the roads in the oldest classic vehicle she has ever driven – the museum’s 1925 Humber 12/25 Tourer.

“The pedals on the Humber are not the usual layout of accelerator, brake, clutch,” she said.

“They are brake, accelerator, clutch. So it was rather nail biting!”

In its day the Humber was considered a high-quality vehicle. By 1926 the four door four seat tourer cost £440, almost twice the price of a similarly styled Ford Model T.

Steph also enjoyed a slightly more rugged ride in a 1955 Series 1 Land Rover – a vehicle which has been on her “bucket list” for years.

Chris Lowe, operations manager at the Lakeland Motor Museum, said: “We were delighted to welcome Steph and show her around the 30,000 exhibits housed at the museum.

“We know her thousands of viewers will be fascinated by the many vehicles on show here but also by the stunning roads across the Lake District that are just calling out to drivers of classic vehicles!”

The YouTube team found the perfect accommodation for their classic car Lake District “staycation” – by staying at the 4-star Lakeside Hotel and Spa on the shores of Windermere.

Ben Mayou, general manager at Lakeside Hotel and Spa said the hotel is the ideal setting for classic car and motorbike enthusiasts looking for a luxury Lake District stay.

“It was great to welcome the idriveaclassic team to the hotel,” he said.

“Cumbria and The Lake District offers fantastic driving routes and stunning scenic roads that are hugely popular. Being situated on the shore of Windermere, as well as being just a short drive from the Lakeland Motor Museum, Lakeside is ideally placed for a comfortable and relaxing stay.”

Steph also took the opportunity to enjoy a journey on a Windermere Lake Cruises tour around England’s longest lake.

“Coming to The Lake District has been one of the most exhilarating experiences of 2022!” She said. “The driving roads were breath-taking and the museums and attractions on offer were thoughtfully put together; with our favourite being the Lakeland Motor Museum.

“I am excited to show everyone our wonderful adventures on idriveaclassic and encourage more people to the area. It's a true gem!”

The Lake District videos will go live on the channel idriveaclassic in August.
