TRAVELLERS who parked up on a Kendal playing field have left.
The group arrived at Sandylands Road playing field early last week.
Cumbria Police issued a section 61 - Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 notice on the afternoon of August 3 which required them to leave by 6pm.
This act enables senior police officers to evict people from the land if they are suspected of trespassing, are causing 'damage, disruption or distress' or have six or more vehicles on the land and have been asked to leave by the land owner, in this case, South Lakeland District Council.
A South Lakeland District Council spokesman said: “We can confirm that the Travellers who were unlawfully camped on the playing fields at Sandylands Road, Kendal, left the site on Wednesday following action by Cumbria Police and South Lakeland District Council.
“This was another good example of partnership working between the police and the council’s Locality Team. We wish the Travellers a safe onward journey.”
