SOUTH Lakeland District Council has voiced its support for the people of Ukraine on their day of independence.
The council will continue to fly the country's flag over the town hall in Kendal as a mark of solidarity with the nation that is currently at war with Russia.
Ukraine was invaded by Russia on Februrary 24. The conflict has since claimed nearly 30,000 lives.
SLDC said: "The Ukrainian flag is flying above Kendal Town Hall as we wish the people of Ukraine well for their Independence Day today.
"The sunflower is the country's national flower and is also a symbol of hope in the future.
People across South Lakeland have given a warm and generous welcome to refugees fleeing the conflict by opening up their homes in the past few months.
"We continue to stand with Ukraine as the country fights for its freedom."
