A RESTAURANT that operated in Broughton from the 1970s will be converted into a residential property.
Beswicks Restaurant on The Square closed in 2017 due to the owner's ill health and was subsequently lived in as a home until December 2021.
The Grade II Listed property used to be fully residential before the 1970s when it was changed into a cafe and then later to Beswicks Restaurant.
A change of use application has been approved to formally turn it back into a four-storey dwelling, with the Lake District National Park Authority Planner's Report stating:
"The restaurant closed approximately three years ago and has been for sale since December 2021.
"It is located in the centre of Broughton-in-Furness where there are a number of other food and drink establishments.
"Given the size of the former restaurant and its mixed use, I consider that its loss is acceptable in this case."
