AN APPLICATION to create a lake at a farm has been approved by the Lake District National Park Authority.
The feature at Town End, between Crosthwaite and Cartmel Fell, will be introduced 'to improve biodiversity and provide increased natural wildlife habitats'.
A design and access statement submitted by Damson Consultancy Ltd on behalf of applicants Mr and Mrs Maher said the lake would be around 73m by 33m in size.

"The owners are passionate about farming the land sustainably and have a flock of rare breed sheep as well as six acres of newly planted woodland," said the statement.
"Their ambition has been to leave the land in a better state than how they found it, using regenerative agriculture practices and avoiding chemicals and fertilisers.
"Their grazing management plan is to improve biodiversity through rare breed grazing."
The deepest section of the lake, which will be installed within a boggy area of existing farmland, is to be 2m. An island is to be formed in the southern section.
