STAFF at Cumbria Tourism are hitting the road to help dozens of businesses plug into a tourist information network in cyberspace that notched up £2.6 million in bookings for the county last year.

Web experts from Cumbria Tourism at Staveley will be holding a series of free workshops for businesses at tourist information centres in Carlisle, Penrith, Keswick, Bowness and Kendal, to show tourism businesses how they can use the Destination Management System (DMS).

The system - which is considered to be a vital part of the county's tourism network but is little known outside of the industry - links thousands of tourism businesses throughout Cumbria directly to the desktops of staff at tourist information centres.

The sessions, which are being held as part of British Tourism Week, take place at Penrith TIC on Tuesday, March 11; Keswick TIC on March 12; Bowness Bay TIC on March 13; and Kendal TIC on March 14.
