A LEADING Lancashire charity is urging people to take part in the famous Cross Bay Walk to raise much needed funds for blind people.

Galloway's Society for the Blind is organising the eight mile walk across Morecambe Bay to celebrate 50 years of supporting visually impaired people across North Lancashire.

The event will be lead by Queen's Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson, MBE, and will take place on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29.

The three-hour walk, which provides panoramic views of the bay, begins in Arnside during the afternoon and finishes at Kents Bank, near Grange.

Tony Kimpton, of Galloway's, based in Morecambe, said: "The walk is our most popular event and we are encouraging as many people as possible to take part.

"Individuals as well as groups, young and old, are needed to make this our best ever walk.

"Cedric is a great supporter of Galloway's and we want to wish him well during his 45th anniversary of leading people safely across the sands."

Proceeds from the walk will go towards four projects being undertaking by the charity including the talking newspaper, magazine and book services and the provision of specialist equipment.
