ACROSS Cumbria and the Northwest people are being asked to put their best foot forward and help raise money for Help the Aged.

With spring approaching and the days getting longer, there is no excuse to stop people getting out and enjoying the countryside and Help the Aged's Big Spring Walk is the fantastic fundraising event that aims to do just that.

The event also aims to raise vital funds for the charity to help it continue with its fight to free disadvantaged older people from poverty, isolation and neglect.

Commenting on the health benefits of walking, Kirsty Gallacher of Help the Aged said: "I am passionate about exercising and try to remain as fit and healthy as possible. Walking is an effective form of exercise which people of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy and fit into their everyday lives. For example, people can always walk to work as part of the Big Spring Walk whilst donating money to the charity."

Other ways to take part include hosting a walking event with family and friends or attend a Help the Aged organised walk.

Walks are taking place across the region, with people in the South Lakes invited to come together on Monday May 5 at Troutbeck, near Windermere.
