A PLAN for an extra door in a busy public toilet block has been refused.

An application for a certificate of lawfulness to add a door to the ladies' block of Bowness Bay Toilets on The Glebe has been refused by the Lake District National Park Authority on the grounds that it is too big to be classed as an 'ancillary building', and so planning permission would need to be sought.

The upper limit for the classification is 200 cubic metres, whereas the toilet block is around 300 cubic metres.

The application states: "The ladies' toilet entrance is a health and safety risk due to it being one of the busiest UK public toilets and having one narrow doorway.

"Since the relaxation of the pandemic the toilets are now increasingly busy.

"Visitors are risking injury to themselves, their children, and others by forcing their way in and out of this particular toilet block."
