A FAST-MOVING and highly entertaining play evoking life at a modern comprehensive school looks set to wow audiences in Burneside this week.

Directed by Greg Robertson and performed by the Vague Theatre Company, Teechers is an inventive play by celebrated northern playwright John Godber that sees three fifth-form students sketch the progress of their new drama teacher.

From initial enthusiasm, the play showcases the full spectrum of emotions that accompany the newcomer's encounters with rebellious classes, cynical colleagues and obstructive caretakers, before climaxing in the utter despair and disillusionment that pre-empts his departure for a private school.

Written for three actors to play no less than twenty characters, and with only a few desks and chairs to convey the many settings, Teechers stretches the imagination of cast and audience alike.

Vague Theatre Company is an amateur touring theatre company based in Kendal that, since its formation in 2005, has built up a reputation for bringing high quality, contemporary theatre to rural communities.

Its latest offering, Teechers, will be performed at the Bryce Institute in Burneside on Saturday April 19, the People's Hall in Sedbergh on Friday April 25 and the Educational Institute in Arnside on April 26, with tickets priced at £6.
