LAKELAND Wildlife Oasis zoo in Milnthorpe will offer adults-only workshops.

A different day course is on offer every Sunday and Monday throughout October up to half term. This is the first time in thirty years that anything like this has been offered to adults.

Each day will offer guests exclusive access to normally off-limits areas of the zoo. On Sunday, October 2 there will be practical reptile keeping and exotic animal photography on Monday, October 3.

Sunday 9 is dedicated to making mini gardens and terrariums followed by a 'special zookeeper for the day' course on Monday 10.

The Westmorland Gazette: The zoo is offering adult-only workshopsThe zoo is offering adult-only workshops

This is based on a successful series of workshops given out to children by the zoo over the summer which the parents displayed an interest in.

Starting from £90 each day course runs from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm and includes refreshments, lunch, and equipment. Numbers are limited to eight per course, so advance booking is required.

Zoo founder Jo Marsden said: “The idea had been building for a while, but, like many attractions, we were feeling our way out of two years of lockdown, disruption, and uncertainty,

“The children’s Summer Ranger Clubs have proved such a success, allowing children the freedom to mix, explore and experience nature close up, that we’re scheduling more for October half term due to demand!

“When parents came to collect their kids, we heard more and more of them saying wistfully: ‘I wish there was something like this for grown-ups!’ The chance to keep learning, socialising, and having fun is vital for adults too, yet all too often is something that gradually drops away."

“Getting everything devised and prepared has been a challenge, but we’ve had so much interest, we didn’t want to miss the lovely autumn window,” adds Jo. “All the keepers are really excited, too; it’s another positive step forward for the zoo in the community."
