THE plum-loving public will be licking their lips on Saturday (April 19) when the Lyth Valley welcomes the crowds to the famous Damson Day.

Dozens of stalls crammed with edible goodies and a selection of crafts will be on offer, as the annual event enjoys its 11th year at Low Farm.

Crowds are expected to top 2,000 and to help ease traffic troubles the organisers are laying on a shuttle bus which will leave Kendal at 10.15am and 1.15pm and leave the farm at 12.45pm and 4.15pm.

The event was started by the Westmorland Damson Association in 1998 to regenerate interest in damson growing in the Lyth and Winster valleys. As ever, Saturday's event will feature cooking demonstrations, the chance to talk to expert growers about the forthcoming fruit season and tours of Low Farm's orchards, which will be in full blossom.

Entry to the event, which is held just off the A5074, and runs between 10.30am-4.30pm, is £4 for adults and £2 for under-16s. The coach fare will be £2 and people can book a seat in advance by calling 015395-68479 or turn up on the day.
