AN ENTERPRISING scheme to raise money for St George's Church is calling on the residents of Kendal to donate their unwanted books.
Established by committed churchgoers Angela and Arnold Brockbank, The Book Corner has been providing a steady flow of cash into St George's funds for some time.
Mrs Brockbank explained that hardback and good quality paperback novels that were donated by members of the public could be sold after services, making a small but valuable contribution to the church funds.
She continued: "It costs us thousands of pounds to maintain the church and this helps by providing a steady little income."
Anyone interested in supporting the cause should contact Mr or Mrs Brockbank on 01539-727600, who will then arrange to collect the books.
The couple ask that people do not drop the books off at the church themselves, as they may not be able to collect them straight away, which can result in the church becoming cluttered and untidy.
It is also asked that only novels are donated to the Book Corner as magazines and non-fiction books tend not to sell.
