"YOUR Post Office Needs You" is the message being sent out to every household and more than 30 businesses in the Brough area, as the campaign to keep the local branch open steps up.

Chairman of Brough Parish Council David Yeadell has sent a letter calling on local people to write and let the post office know their objections to the proposed closure of Brough Post Office, before the consultation period ends on May 27.

And a poster and car stickers have been sent with the letter, which will be coming through the letterboxes of homes in North and South Stainmore, Brough Sowerby, Musgrave, Kaber, Baras, Church Brough and Warcop, as well as Brough itself.

Coun Yeadell said: "We are canvassing all residents, businesses and organisations seeking support for the campaign to save Brough Post Office. It is important that people write to Richard Lynds, Network Development Manager at Post Office Ltd who will make the final decision on the closures.

"The sub post offices throughout the nation are essential components in the communities, more so than schools, churches and pubs, which are important nonetheless. The post office in Brough is accessible five and a half days a week whereas the other establishments are accessible on a restricted basis for various reasons. The residents, businesses and organisations in and around Brough need the post office to remain open and we seek their support."

Post Mistress Pat Jones said: "We need as many people as possible to write to Richard Lynds. We also have a petition against the closure that people can sign in the post office and we are organising a Support March on Saturday, April 26. We want as many people as possible to display our Save Our Post Office posters and car stickers to get our message across."
