A NATIONAL Park volunteer-led walk in the Coppermines valley will explore the history of mining in the area.
The walk is 2.6 miles (4.2 kilometres), with 520 feet (160 metres) of ascent. It will take around 2.5 hours to complete.
Participants will meet on Wednesday September 28 at 10am at Coniston Tourist Information Centre, Ruskin Avenue.
The Easy+ grade walk will begin in Coniston village and move into Coppermines Valley past Miners Bridge. It will then visit the Lower and Upper Bonsor dressing floors to discover how copper was mined and processed here.
The return route to Coniston includes part of the track along which the processed copper was taken to the railway and onwards.
The walk is on quarry roads and paths. It involves moderate ascents and descents on metalled roads and tracks with loose surfaces. Some sections can be muddy or slippery in poor weather.
