Postwatch, the independent watchdog for postal services, today urged customers to have their say on Post Office Ltd's consultation on the future of post offices in Cumbria.
The Government has decided that because of financial losses and falling customer numbers, up to 2,500 post offices should close. Post Office Ltd, through its Network Change Programme', is proposing the location of those branches that are to close, subject to public consultation.
Post Office Ltd's public consultation for Cumbria finishes on 27 May 2008.
Judith Donovan CBE, Chair of Postwatch Northern England, said: "There's still time for customers to give comments to Post Office Ltd for the proposed changes in their area.
"Constructive input from local communities is important. Changes are going to take place in the post office network. It is essential these are made with the benefit of local customer feedback to help minimise inconvenience and disruption.
"Postwatch has scrutinised and provided initial comments on Post Office Ltd's proposals. Our final position, however, will take into account responses made by customers during the consultation period."
