Kendal United won The Invitation Trophy after they defeated Milnthorpe Corinthians.

The match ended in a 4-2 victory after an action pack final on a rain-soaked night at Kendal Town Football Club.

Richard Closes team were excellent in the first half surged into a 2-0 lead following goals by Ryan Close and Bailey Kenny.

Milnthorpe Corinthians battled back in the second half with two goals in quick succession from Tomas Sanchez and Jordan Lynch.

With the game evenly poised, Kendal United pushed on for the last fifteen minutes before regaining the lead after Danny Craig scored before Bailey Kenny’s second goal saw Kendal United celebrate.

The game started off with Kendal dominating and creating opportunities, while Milnthorpe Corinthians had a lot of possession without posing too much of a threat to Kendal United goalkeeper Jack Brolly.

Kendal deservedly went in front after Ryan Close fired the ball into the net following a good attack and they were soon 2-0 up when match referee Bernard Law awarded a penalty for a foul in the box.

Bailey Kenny stepped up and placed the ball into the right-hand corner and Kendal could have easily scored more goals but for a final ball and missed opportunities.

Corinthians manager Shaun Gardner clearly got into his players at half time as they came out a different team, starting on the front foot and posing more of a threat to Kendal United’s defence.

The pressure began to tell after Tomas Sanchez scored from close range before Jordan Lynch’s powerful strike on goal saw Corinthians draw level.

Kendal battled back and began to regain control before Danny Craigs goals and a second goal from Bailey Kenny saw Kendal United celebrate a memorable 4-2 win.
