A NINE-YEAR-OLD has become the first Kendal resident to walk over a new bridge in the town.
Brodie Lee wrote to the county council's then chief executive, Katherine Fairclough, during the pandemic asking if the council could build a new bridge.
Brodie will attend the official opening ceremony of Gooseholme Bridge tomorrow. Proceedings begin at 11am.
Cllr Keith Little, Cumbria County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “It is great news to hear that Brodie was the first resident to walk over the bridge.
"This is something he can cherish for a very long time."
Robin Hicks, project manager for Story Contracting, said: “It was a pleasure to meet Brodie and his mum, and I am happy that he was the first resident of Kendal to walk over the bridge, as he was so eager to see it.”
