THE world of wrestling is in mourning after the death of a Kendalian former world champion.

Robin Richardson (Rob), formerly of Laverock Bridge, Kendal, and an alumnus of Kendal Wrestling Academy, has died at the age of 94.

Robin held the 12-stone World Championship title in 1954 and became All Weights World Champion in 1961 at Pooley Bridge Sports.

Rob beat Joe Barnes of Renwick to claim the All Weights World Championship.
Coincidentally, both wrestlers met in the final of the All Weights championship the following year at Dalston, Joe Barnes being the victor in 1962.

Rob’s funeral will be held at St John the Baptist Church, Skelsmergh, at noon on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling is actively strong in the clubs of Carlisle, Kendal, and Waberthwaite.

The Annual Presentation Dinner will take place Friday November 4, where Ludorum trophies will be presented to winners.
