FANCY taking a magical carpet ride - well with the help of The Lakes Players you can!

In true panto style, the amateur dramatic society will be taking theatre loves on an eye popping journey as they tell the tale of Disney favourite Aladdin.

Heading the team for 2022 is panto pro Stewart Hart who will also be starring as Widow Twankey, along with his usual sidekick Gareth Lambert as Wishee Washee.

Aladdin will be played by the talented Ed Brownall and playing by his side as princess, is newcomer Jemma Blackwell.

The Westmorland Gazette:

The show will be full of fantastic effects, musical numbers and dazzling costumes and not to mention a magical flying carpet.

Stewart said: "We have managed to go big with the effects this year, as last year there was a shortage of pyrotechnics, due to covid, so we had to adapt the show and create effects that didn’t include pyrotechnics.

"But this year we have gone all out with flashes and bangs galore and what better way than with one of the most spectacular pantomimes, Aladdin?"

The gang have been rehearsing since September to make sure they create the most amateur professional panto in town.

All the dance routines have been specially choreographed by Catherine Robinson, Rachel Baines and Miss Maria Dance School of Ambleside.

The special effects have been supplied by Purple Sheep of London and the costumes by Imagine Theatre Coventry and UK Productions.

The Westmorland Gazette:

Miss Twankeys crazy wardrobe this year is said to be a feast for the eyes from noodles to runner beans, a spectacle not to be missed.

Stewart said: "The players are also excited for you all to see the flying carpet, a magical dragon leads Aladdin to save the princess from Abanazer as he fly’s through the air over Peking and beyond ….will he save the princess will abanazer admit defeat and will wishee washhe ever get the dry cleaning done."
