Author John Cunliffe who lived nearby created the well loved character in 1978.
The TV series which began on September 16th 1981 and continued to 2013 was filmed in Manchester.
They ran for a total of 184 episodes, originally on BBC1, later repeated on CBeebies.
The post office closed in 2003.
