PORTUGUESE police are searching for a Sedbergh man who went missing while on holiday in Madeira.

Darren Kay, 52, was on holiday in the town of Calheta on the Portuguese island with his partner, and they went for a two-hour run on Sunday.

He had told his partner that he would carry on running for another 30 minutes, but never returned.

The family did not have much information but understood windy weather conditions and high tides had prevented searches in some areas, Mr Kay's brother told the BBC.

However, police in Calheta, where Mr Kay was staying, have confirmed to The Westmorland Gazette that the search for Mr Kay will resume at 10 am this morning (December 14).
