A WOMEN'S charity based in Barrow was surprised with a 'generous' gift from a team of carpet fitters.
HDC Flooring, a domestic and commercial flooring company based in the South Lakes, gifted Women's Community Matters clients' floor covering free of charge to their properties.
James Burrows, director of HDC Flooring, which has bases in Grange, Ambleside and Kendal, said: "After Covid lockdown we got the idea that here at HDC Flooring we recognised people were going through a really bad time.
"We wanted to help people so we came up with the idea that on Christmas Eve we would fit floor covering free of charge for people in need.
"In 2021 we rang Adult Services in Kendal and they put forward three people within the area who would benefit. Our only criteria was the people chosen had children in need of our help."
This Christmas they decided to repeat the same gesture, but this time they picked the charity Women's Community Matters.
"We fit four different properties with floor covering for them free of charge", said James.
Pat Davey, a trustee at Women's Community Matters, said: "A friend contacted me and asked if Women's Community Matters would like some carpets for some clients. I contacted Simon Mellings, who came out with James Burrows to measure up for four of our ladies properties.
"The joy when these carpets were laid was undeniable. What a Christmas present. Simon said it was both a privilege and a pleasure to provide these carpets.
"On behalf of Women's Community Matters, we would like to say thank you to HDC Flooring from Grange, especially James Burrows, Simon Mellings, and the four young men who came on the 23rd December and fitted carpets.
"On a challenging day the staff were amazing and did an excellent job, with such love and warmth. They were brilliant."
