A MAJOR coffeehouse chain reportedly swinging open its doors next month is recruiting for dozens of new jobs.

Starbucks will soon be serving their world-renowned coffee in Ulverston after months of planning and preparation.

A proposal to open a drive-thru Starbucks at Beehive Business Park was given the green light in September.

The new store will have inside and outside seating areas, car parking, accessible spaces, toilets and a drive-thru lane.

The plans includes 18 vehicle parking spaces, including two disabled spaces, and parking spaces for six bicycles.

New store manager Emma revealed the coffeehouse is hoping to open its doors at the end of February.

Emma, who has more than 20 years of management experience, said the store was looking for a number of staff members to help run the store.

She said: “We have already recruited myself and two assistant managers from Barrow and Ulverston. We are now looking for shift supervisors and baristas. All jobs are advertised on Indeed or the company website ‘23.5 Degrees’.

“We are hoping to open the last weekend in February and in total we hope for over 20 new staff members, so there’s some good opportunities out there to be had. It is a company that promotes self-progression for those that want it.”

In December, permission for extended hours at the new Starbucks were refused.

The changes would have seen the planned branch open between 6am and 10pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

But South Lakeland District Council turned down the application on the grounds that the proposed hours would have resulted in 'harm to the amenity of existing and future neighbouring occupiers' owing to 'vehicle movements, customer noise, air handling units and staff arrivals early morning and late evening'.

The current permitted opening hours of the Starbucks branch are 6am to 10pm between Mondays and Fridays and 7am to 6pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Barrow is also set to get its first Starbucks after a planning application was given the green light last month.

The drive-thru branch of the popular coffee chain is to be situated in the car park of Asda in Walney Road.
