A HUGELY popular online celebrity from Cumbria has updated fans after he was unexpectedly hospitalised after shattering bones in his spine.

Jamie Bateson, of Kendal, has a remarkable 1.5 million subscribers on his Youtube channel Bateson87 who follow his exploits playing video game FIFA.

The 35-year-old, who left a job at Stagecoach in Kendal to make a living entertaining his legions of fans with his online footballing exploits, addressed his 716,000 followers on Twitter to announce his shock diagnosis.

He posted a video on Twitter from outside the hospital where he was an in-patient, in which he said: "I have shattered two of my vertebrae.

"I've been put on a ward with people in palliative care and it's very upsetting, so I've asked if can come outside for ten minutes to just chill and get my thoughts together.

"I've never, ever stayed in a hospital all night, but something which I thought was just muscle pain, for which I thought I was wasting people’s time, has turned into something quite serious.

"So I'm staying overnight.

"I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow in terms of what they’re going to do in the hospital.

"A shout-out to you guys for all the messages.

"It's very upsetting for me, for Nat, and the kids, but the NHS have done absolute wonders so I can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me today - even though its strike day aswell, we did get an ambulance from Kendal to this hospital.

"We’ll see what happens but I don't know when I’ll be back streaming and making videos, but health first – I need to get this sorted.

"We don’t want to have any long-term damage."

He was discharged from the hospital the following day pending further treatment but wasted no time in thanking 'amazing' NHS workers via Twitter.

He said: "Got back home earlier.

"No brace fitted yet but have to take it easy until it arrives.

"All the care the NHS gave me yesterday and today was unreal!

"Shoutout to all the amazing workers."
