A POLE supporting a power line near Ribblehead viaduct on the scenic Settle to Carlisle route snapped and fell over the tracks.
The Lancashire division of the British Transport Police (BTP) said that this was the reason for the disruption on the line. Reportedly, the pole snapped before 4 am, which dropped cables onto the tracks.
Engineers from Electricity North West then had to put up a new pole.
When somebody asked the BTP on social media why the lines had dropped down considering the distance from the pole to the tracks, a spokesperson responded:
"Wires sag down, and they cross the line almost opposite the broken pole. From this driver's cab view you can see the pole on the left."
