Broughton Drama Group is bringing to life its own sequel to Cinderella's story.
In this stinging tale of jealousy and betrayal, the Ugly Sisters are out to break up Cinderella and her Prince Charming. They will stop at nothing – deception, theft, magic spells... but will they ever find happiness themselves?
Director Caroline Batten has been part of Broughton Drama Group, both on stage and in the director’s chair, for many years, and says this year’s show is a welcome return to the stage.
It is their first show in three years after a covid break.
Caroline said: “After missing the last two pantomimes because of covid worries, it’s great to be back. We’ve got a great cast of all ages, and a brilliant group of volunteers making the sound, lights, props, costumes and scenery all come together. It’s a real team effort.”
The 22-strong cast is backed up by a crew of volunteers who have been working hard to bring 'Cinderella 2 – The Ugly Sisters Strike Back' to life since rehearsals began in October.
Starting this Friday at the Victory Hall, the production is described as a hilarious sequel to Cinderella – with the ugly sisters determined to stop her living happily ever after.
The panto is described as: "The story begins in Broughton Square where Cinderella and Prince Henri are happily preparing for their wedding day.
"But her ugly step-sisters, Nausea and Dyspepsia, are not so pleased. Annoyed they are not marrying the prince, they enlist the help of Wanda, the Witch of the Woods. Wanda casts a spell on the Prince, making him mean and cruel to everyone he meets. Appalled at his behaviour, Cinderella calls the wedding off. Can true love, a band of pickpockets and half the village save the day?"
Performances are at 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and 2.30pm on Sunday, at Broughton’s Victory Hall.
Tickets are £6 for adults, £3.50 for children, with family discounts available. Tickets on sale at Broughton Post Office or on the door (subject to availability).
