A CUMBRIAN MP took to the 5k Rothay Park parkrun course at the weekend.

It was Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron’s first time taking part in a parkrun event.

Beforehand he had taken to Twitter to say: “Off to Ambleside to do my first ever #parkrun!”

Mr Farron was joined by 72 fellow parkrunners as he made his way around the free course.

The fastest man to finish the course was Richard Foster in 19.10, followed by Mark Havenhand in 20.32, and Jonathan Cowie in 21.32.

The fastest woman to finish the course was Kate Morris in 22.58, followed by Elizabeth Green in 23.20, and Shirley Buckley in 23.39.

Event director Suzanne said: “It was his (Mr Farron’s) first ever parkrun.

“He came to run, completing it in around 28 minutes and then stayed and chatted to all the rnners and volunteers – brilliant!

“We really enjoyed his visit and he is welcome anytime.”

Mr Farron completed his first ever parkrun with a time of 28 minutes and 58 seconds, making him the 35th person to cross the finish line that day.
