A NEW furniture business that has recently moved to Kendal from the Yorshire Dales has been shortlisted for an award.

Contour Campervan Furniture designs and manufactures modular, innovative and sustainable furniture which is packed with thoughtful details and creative storage solutions.

Caitlin Green and Tom Lake launched Contour after converting their own campervan and travelling in it throughout 2020.

They are outdoor enthusiasts with backgrounds in product design, manufacturing, communications, visual arts and textiles and they have used all these skills to create the unique furniture on offer at Contour.

Tom said: "Our sofa-beds, kitchen units, lighting and accessories cater to people who want to build their campervan to a professional standard, but may not have the time, space or experience to do it themselves. We offer a tiered service, to suit all requirements, from shipped furniture to a comprehensive conversion service".

The company has recently been shortlisted for the Business and Product Innovation Award (North West) in the Federation of Small Businesses Awards.

These awards celebrate the passion, dedication and innovation of small businesses and Contour is thrilled to be amongst some other brilliant small businesses.

Caitlin said: “It has taken a huge amount of research and development to create campervan furniture suited to a wide range of makes and models of vans.

"It needed to be simple enough for customers to assemble themselves (with only a few basic tools), universal enough to fit the different dimensions and curves of most vans, and unique, innovative and stylish enough to compete with one-of-a kind, bespoke van conversions. This is a very tall order."

Since launching Contour has designed 23 new products, which combine to form 10 layouts for medium and large vans.

Since moving to Kendal, the company has employed someone locally and they expect to create further jobs as the company continues to grow.

The couple is strongly committed to creating products that work for both their customers and the planet.

They are currently developing a range of products that will reduce sheet wastage and they have recently purchased a CNC machine with government grant funding which will allow them to bring all of their furniture production in-house.

Their contemporary, stylish furniture can be shipped, collected or installed at their workshop in Kendal, where they also have two campervans available to hire.
