A POPULAR pub is set to reopen after having a major internal refurbishment.

The Crown Inn in Conniston closed its doors to upgrade its facilities in November last year.

It has now been announced that the pub will be back for business by the end of this month on March 20.

Dianne Walsh, general manager of The Crown Inn, said the pub had not had a major refurbishment for around 20 years.

She said: "A lot of people wanted us to keep some character and it has got character. It is more of the 'olde world' but with a new twist to it."

Holly Richardson, communications manager for Robinsons Brewery & Pubs, said: "The Crown has been designed by one of our in-house designers Kate Higgins.

"We have removed the porch from the front of the building but re-used the slate to create our new feature fireplace. This is one of many ways we've adapted the features of the pub and ensured our commitment to reducing waste and being sustainable.

"We've also created space for a bespoke Dominos table in the pub to encourage interaction amongst our community and unwinding in a different way after a day on the fells.

"We've created a private dining room, which we hope will be a great hit for celebrations and larger groups."

The Ruskin Museum has shared features, history and items for them to display within The Crown.

They have worked with local slate producers – Coniston Stone Craft – to create bespoke tealights and signs for their bedrooms.

Holly added: "You’ll see inspiration and nods to Arthur Ransom, John Ruskin and Donald Campbell – even to the point of using a beautiful wallpaper called ‘ Ruskin’.

"We’ve incorporated prints of birds by J M W Turner, an artist who was championed by local art critic, John Ruskin.

"You’ll also see walls decorated with artwork about our local slate work industry, the Southern fells walked by Alfred Wainwright as well as artwork from long-term residents of Coniston W G Collingwood and Campbell."

A new menu is being prepared including options for all diets.

Most of the staff that has worked there before are returning and a new chef is being added to the team.

In addition, they have added a family-sized bedroom and a fully accessible bedroom.
