THE MET Office predicts up to 40cm of snow in some parts of Cumbria and Yorkshire at the end of this week.
The meteorological service has issued a map of which areas it thinks will receive the most amount of snow on Thursday and Friday.
A number of National Severe Warnings for snow and ice have been issued. Further warnings are likely to be issued throughout the week.

Most of Cumbria and Lancashire can expect 3-5cm of snow widely and 10-15cm locally, however high-ground areas in the east of Cumbria, northern Yorkshire, and in Northumberland could expect 5-10 cm widely and 30-40 cm locally.
Met Office chief meteorologist Matthew Lehnert said: “Snow, ice and low temperatures are the main themes of this week’s forecast, with the UK under an arctic maritime air mass.

Tonight and tomorrow (7-8 January) there will be snow across south and north-east England and in some parts of northern Scotland. Northern Ireland will have light snow for all of this week.
