LEVENS Choir returns for two concerts with a programme of music by Bach and Arvo Pärt.

Despite being born 250 years apart and working within very different musical traditions, these two composers have a key thing in common: the profound spiritual faith that lies at the heart of their music.

But faith, as we will hear in these concerts, means something very different for Bach and Pärt, and while it is expressed very differently by Bach and Pärt, has led in both cases to the creation of inspirational music of great beauty.

Led by their conductor, Gawain Glenton, and accompanied by Manchester Cathedral’s accomplished organist Christopher Stokes, Levens Choir will perform classic choral works of these two composers, along with pieces by two members of Bach’s extended musical family and Pärt’s Polish contemporary, Henryk Górecki.

The programme also includes several solo organ pieces.

Levens Choir ‘The Power of the Spirit’ will take place at the The Parish Church of St George, Kendal, on Saturday March 25 and at Victoria Hall, Grange, on Sunday March 26.
