AN historic farmhouse in Troutbeck is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Townend is opening for the season on Tuesday March 28.

Visitors will be invited to explore the new Treasures of Townend spotlight exhibition, which celebrates the Browne family’s legacy and the rich history of Townend, bringing together some of the treasures of the collection.

Included are objects that have never been seen before including George Browne’s furniture designs and a Herdwick carpet hand woven in Troutbeck.

In addition to special objects from the collection, the exhibition explores interesting pieces from the property’s archives, including an article from the Westmorland Gazette in 1914.

House and Collections Officer Chantelle Dollimore said: “It’s a privilege to be able to celebrate 75 years of being open to the public as a visitor attraction – in that time I would expect that more than one million visits have been made to the house.”
