A MOUNTAINEER has been announced as the guest speaker for a charity ball.

The Lake District Calvert Trust's summer ball takes place on June 9 at Armathwaite Hall in Bassenthwaite.

The charity supports people with disabilities to benefit from outdoor activities in the countryside.

Guests will hear from ex-SAS mountain leader and spiritual guide Krish Thapa.

Sean Day, centre director at the Lake District Calvert Trust, said: "This year's summer ball promises to be our best yet and we are thrilled to welcome Krish as our guest speaker.

“Krish will share his extraordinary journey; from growing up in the foothills of the Himalayas into the Ghurkhas and then being the first Ghurkha to make it through the gruelling SAS selection process where he served as head of the mountain troop and mental health first aider for 21 years.

"He will be explaining how he found mental strength and resilience in returning to his Buddhist roots and how he is now encouraging others to overcome adversity, fear and depression through adventure and sport with a positive mindful approach.

"Amongst all the fun, the evening also serves a hugely important purpose.

"Every year, our residential breaks and accessible stables help thousands of people with a range of disabilities experience the Lake District in a safe and supportive way, delivering a fun and fulfilling experience that makes a positive difference in their lives."

Tickets are now available for the black-tie event, where there is also a charity auction, live entertainment and three-course dinner.
