AN arrest has been made following reports of a sexual assault in a popular tourist area of Bowness.

A heavy police presence was spotted on Glebe Road in the bustling lakeside town on Tuesday, with an area of the street cordoned off to prevent public access.

Cumbria Police have released the following statement:

"Police are investigating a reported serious sexual assault of a woman on Glebe Road, Bowness, on April 18.

"A man, in his twenties, has been arrested. He was released on police bail as enquiries continue.

"The victim is being supported by specially trained officers as enquiries continue."
