CHILDREN at a Kendal primary school will be celebrating the coronation of King Charles III in style with a series of events including a Mock Coronation Ceremony.

To create lasting memories of the momentous occasion, the school agreed upon a Coronation Parade, Mock Coronation Ceremony, and whole-school community picnic afternoon.

It also held a competition to make a king's crown or a coronation hat and has been inundated with bejewelled, beautifully-produced entries which are proudly displayed in school.

The children are all dressing up as royalty, beefeaters, dignitaries, and military personnel, and there will be a sea of red, white, and blue as they parade through the streets around the school on Friday, May 5.

Children have made flags of the commonwealth, bunting, and a golden carriage for the king's procession.

Kendal Town Crier and the Mayor of Kendal will open the proceedings with speeches at the Leisure Centre.

Crowds will line the streets as the children make their way back to Heron Hill onto the bottom field where the coronation ceremony will take place.

All children will sing specially-written coronation songs they have learned, the national anthem and, most importantly, they will crown the new King.

This will be followed by a picnic for around 600 people.

There will also be a red, white, and blue cake sale run by Friends of Heron Hill.

A spokesman for the school said: "As part of Heron Hill’s coronation celebrations, we thought it important to give something back to the community.

"After contacting a friend at Home Instead (which offers at-home care for the elderly across South Lakeland), we came up with the idea of making coronation rosettes for their elderly clients.

"The idea was then extended to include making rosettes for the Companionship Café which runs at Morrisons (a friendly drop-in meeting area for the elderly to meet up and share a coffee and have a chat with other elderly people and the carers at Home Instead).

"Year 3 then had the mammoth task of creating and making 110 Rosettes!

"The results are simply beautiful, depicting the colours of the Union Jack, various patterns associated with London, and a wooden crown emblem, all completed with ribbon.

"Heron Hill School would like to express their grateful thanks to Kendal Town Council for a grant towards the running of this huge community event."
