A HOMELESS man was saved from the streets by a woman with a heart of gold.

For the first time in weeks, a homeless man is staying in a proper bed with a full tummy after the community pulled together to help him.

Hannah Roberts stopped to help a homeless man in Ulverston on Sunday.

Paul had a tent pitched in the alleyway between Greggs and the vape shop in the town centre.

Hannah said her heart broke for him. She went to Greggs and bought four sausage rolls, four donuts and a large latte; she took the food back to Paul and told him to enjoy the food later.

Hannah dug up an old air bed and some spare bedding, and she also went to The Sun Inn and bought Paul a carvery meal before going to Tesco Express for a little torch and some batteries.

Hannah said Paul was really grateful for everything she did.

Hannah asked permission to take Paul’s picture and share his story in the hope the community could support him.

She shared an appeal on Facebook urging people to help and asking if anyone had a bed going empty.

Just hours after Hannah posted her appeal, the community responded.

She said: “Paul and his dog are off the streets for the time being. The Bay Horse in Ulverston have kindly offered to take Paul and his dog in for a few nights. The community has been amazing.”

Last night, Paul was able to stay somewhere in Barrow. Today he came back to Ulverston to collect his belongings before going to stay in a staff room at The Bay Horse.

Hannah said: “I have had a lady message me privately. She has a property available that he can potentially stay in if he’s willing to move out of Ulverston.”
