A PARISH councillor praised his community for the effort it had put into making its coronation celebration so special after between six and seven hundred people enjoyed the event.

Milnthorpe spent three months preparing for its coronation celebrations. Steve Hurst, the parish council chair, said that a brand new committee had to be formed in order to organise the occasion with the main events happening on Sunday and the Beating the Bounds walk on Monday.

Before the event, lads from the village put up ten kilometres of bunting.

Mr Hurst said: "Three months ago we decided to start up a committee. We had a fantastic committee that were starting from scratch really. We went through all the different days we could go for on the day. They did an absolutely fantastic job, we had lots of young people involved in the organisation of it.

"We put up three bouncy castles, we subsidised all that. We had coconut shies. We had a giant kite flying display.

"Six or seven hundred people turned out. It happened to be a fantastic day and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it.

"There were dozens and dozens of people coming up and asking me: 'Are we going to do this as an annual event'."
